Back At Felting After Darren's Birth

For those of you who follow my art, you might have noticed that I took a bit of a break from felting. That is because I have just had my third child, Darren James. The pregnancy was fraught with lots of worry and stress. I was on complete bed rest for 20 weeks and had a 40 day hospital stay, but he arrived safely on March 26, 2011 and was 7 lbs 12 oz and 20 inches long. He is one healthy, happy boy! Seth and Cora have been adjusting amazingly well, and they have celebrated him since his birth - starting with an ice cream birthday cake at the hospital.

During my stay at the hospital, I wasn't able to take my felting. So, to keep me focused on the sunny side of life, I quilted a 10th anniversary quilt for my amazingly loving and tender husband, who stuck by my side the whole time. In addition to the panels with whimsical birds, the hand quilting has birds littered through out, and so the quilt is dubbed "Lovebirds."

I also investigated watercolor pencils, which I fell in love with. After making this piece for a friend's birthday with a cheap set from Walmart, I invested in a beautiful set of 200 colors. I can't wait to use them for my sketches of ideas for my felt work!

And immediately following my stay at the hospital, while still on bed rest, I worked on pysanky eggs to celebrate Easter. One of my friends even gave me eight beautifully smooth duck eggs from her runner ducks. Here are some of my favorites that I have done, some on white chicken eggs, some on brown and green chicken eggs, and others on duck eggs. Pysanka are made using a really magical batik process of dyeing.

But at heart, I still love felting more than ever. Now that Darren is a month old, I am starting to feel human again, as he is slowly developing a set sleep/nursing pattern. And with normalcy, I have started dyeing my year's supply of wool! I am starting to stock it all up to sell the hand painted roving to students and other artists! I'll soon have supplies for sale on my Etsy site, too! So stay tuned for lots of pictures of wool and felt!

I have also started scheduling some events, including a stay up the Balsams where I will appear as a guest felter again! Check out my events page!
